Using the Fraction Calculator
Enter each numerator above its denominator, then choose the operation. Negative numerators are supported. If you have a mixed number, convert it to an improper fraction first so that its whole and fractional parts are both included.

Method and assumptions
Combine fractions using common denominators and simplify using the greatest common divisor.
Keep the relationship visible
Fractions and ratios describe relationships between quantities. Simplifying changes the representation while preserving that relationship. Keep track of which number is the numerator or first ratio term, and do not reverse the order accidentally. If the values represent measurements, use compatible units before simplifying or comparing them.
Common question
How do I enter a mixed number such as 2½?
Convert it to an improper fraction: multiply the whole number by the denominator and add the numerator. For 2½, enter 5 as the numerator and 2 as the denominator.
