Calculate how many grams of fat correspond to your selected calorie percentage. The result makes an energy-based target easier to compare with the grams listed on a food label or recorded in a food diary.

Using the Fat Intake Calculator

Fat provides 9 kilocalories per gram in this model. A 30% allocation at 2,000 kilocalories therefore assigns 600 kilocalories, or about 66.7 grams, to fat. Changing the calorie target changes the gram total even when the percentage remains the same.

Worked example

Use the example inputs below to reproduce this result. These are the form's starting values, not recommended targets. Changing your inputs updates your result above; this worked example stays fixed for comparison. Results are rounded for display.

Method and assumptions

Energy allocation / energy per gram: carbohydrate 4 kcal/g; fat 9 kcal/g. Targets are user selected.

Keep the food quantity consistent

Nutrition arithmetic depends on the quantity of food being described. A per-serving value and a per-hundred-gram value cannot be added or compared directly without scaling them first. When checking a food diary, confirm that all entries use the amount actually recorded. These conversions explain numbers; they do not assess whether a diet meets an individual's needs.

Common question

Why does the result change when my percentage stays the same?

A percentage is a share of a total. Thirty percent of a larger calorie budget contains more energy, so it also corresponds to more grams of fat. Compare both inputs when checking two results rather than comparing the percentages alone.
