Using the Carbohydrate Calculator
The percentage applies to energy intake. Entering 50 with a 2,000-kilocalorie target allocates 1,000 kilocalories to carbohydrate, which the tool converts using 4 kilocalories per gram. The output is the arithmetic consequence of your entries, rather than a personalized recommendation.
Worked example
Use the example inputs below to reproduce this result. These are the form's starting values, not recommended targets. Changing your inputs updates your result above; this worked example stays fixed for comparison. Results are rounded for display.
Example inputs
- Daily calories (kcal)
- 2000
- Share of calories (%)
- 50
Example result
- Grams per day
- 250
Method and assumptions
Energy allocation / energy per gram: carbohydrate 4 kcal/g; fat 9 kcal/g. Targets are user selected.
Keep the food quantity consistent
Nutrition arithmetic depends on the quantity of food being described. A per-serving value and a per-hundred-gram value cannot be added or compared directly without scaling them first. When checking a food diary, confirm that all entries use the amount actually recorded. These conversions explain numbers; they do not assess whether a diet meets an individual's needs.
Common question
Does the calculator choose my carbohydrate needs?
No. You choose both the calorie target and the percentage. Appropriate intake depends on individual circumstances, and this tool does not assess medical needs, training demands or a prescribed diet. It simply converts the selected energy allocation to grams.
