Using the Grade Calculator
Weights should be percentages of the entire final grade, not percentages of completed work. If two completed assignments each carry 30%, the remaining work carries 40%. Match each score to its weight in the same list position.
Worked example
Use the example inputs below to reproduce this result. These are the form's starting values, not recommended targets. Changing your inputs updates your result above; this worked example stays fixed for comparison. Results are rounded for display.
Example inputs
- Completed scores (%)
- 80, 90
- Weights (% of final grade)
- 30, 30
- Desired final grade (%)
- 85
Example result
- Current weighted average (%)
- 85
- Points toward final grade
- 51
- Needed average on remaining work (%)
- 85
Method and assumptions
Completed weighted points plus remaining weight × required score equals your target. A required score above 100% means the target is not attainable within this scale.
Check the grading policy first
Weighted averages only reproduce a grading system when the entered weights and grade values match its rules. Review how the institution treats missing work, repeated courses and excluded assessments. Keep the original list of scores or points alongside the calculation so that a different official result can be traced to a rule or an entry.
Common question
Why are current average and points toward the final grade different?
The current average divides earned weighted points by completed weight. Points toward the final grade keep the full course denominator. For example, strong results on only half the course can produce a high current average while accounting for fewer final-grade points.
