Using the Dice Roller
Enter whole numbers for sides and dice count. The browser generates each roll separately using cryptographic randomness with rejection sampling. Repeated values are allowed; rolling the same face twice is a possible outcome, not a sign that the tool has stopped working.
Worked example
For two six-sided dice, 3 and 5 are one possible pair of rolls. Their total is 8. This is an illustrative outcome, not the result you should expect on the next roll.
Example inputs
- Sides per die
- 6
- Number of dice
- 2
Example result
- One possible set of rolls
- 3, 5
- Total for that example
- 8
Method and assumptions
Independent rolls using browser cryptographic randomness and rejection sampling.
Understand what a random result means
A random generator does not try to make a short sequence look evenly balanced. Repeats and uneven patterns can occur naturally, and the next result is not forced to compensate for earlier ones. The chosen range or character set defines possible outcomes; it does not predict the particular outcome you will receive.
Common question
Are all totals equally likely with two dice?
No. Individual faces are equally likely, but totals can have different numbers of combinations. With two six-sided dice, seven has more possible combinations than two. The roller does not force totals to appear equally often.
