Using the Hex Calculator

Letter case does not change the input value. Results are displayed in uppercase, and division reports a quotient and remainder in the same base.

Method and assumptions

Exact integer arithmetic. Division returns an integer quotient and remainder; binary and hexadecimal inputs are unsigned.

Keep exact values exact

Whole-number problems often need an exact answer rather than a rounded decimal. Check the permitted range and input notation before pasting a large number. A leading minus sign, a decimal point or a base prefix can change whether an entry is valid. Where the tool returns an exact integer or factorization, preserve that form for later calculations.

Common question

Why does hexadecimal use letters?

A base-sixteen digit needs sixteen symbols. After 0 through 9, A through F represent decimal values ten through fifteen.
