Using the Post Office Monthly Income Scheme Calculator

Select the account type before entering the deposit so the correct account cap is checked. Keep any other account holdings and each person’s aggregate share in mind: passing the form’s cap check does not confirm available scheme headroom.

Method and assumptions

Editable rates start from the October–December 2026 small-savings rate table. Use the rate applicable to your issue; future rates are not guaranteed. Five-year holding; simple monthly payout = deposit × rate / 12. ₹9 lakh single / ₹15 lakh joint account caps are checked, assuming sufficient individual aggregate headroom. Unclaimed interest is not compounded. Excludes reinvestment, tax, account-rounding differences and early closure.

Distinguish gross pay from money available to spend

A pay conversion can describe earnings before deductions without predicting the deposit into a bank account. Check which amount each input represents and whether unpaid time is included. For budgeting, keep deductions and irregular payments visible. Bonuses, benefits and payroll schedules can make an annualized estimate differ from any individual paycheck.

Common question

Is the principal included in the monthly income?

No. Monthly income represents interest on the deposit. The principal is modeled as returned at the end of five years, separately from the sixty monthly payouts. Early closure can change the money returned and is not calculated here.
