Using the Group Expense Splitter

Enter one amount per person in a fixed order, including zero for anyone who paid nothing. For a trip where three people paid 120, 60 and 0, the total is 180 and each share is 60: Person 3 pays Person 1 60. Use the same currency for every amount.

Worked example

Use the example inputs below to reproduce this result. These are the form's starting values, not recommended targets. Changing your inputs updates your result above; this worked example stays fixed for comparison. Results are rounded for display.

Method and assumptions

Equal split in one currency with two decimal places. Person numbers follow the input order. Total cents are divided equally; any spare cents are assigned to earlier people. Debtors repay creditors in person order. Transfers balance exactly; this is not a guarantee of the fewest possible payments. No payments are initiated. Unequal shares and currency conversion are not supported.

Agree the split before settling

Use one currency and a consistent person order. Include everyone who owes an equal share, even if they paid nothing up front. Check that every shared purchase appears once. Refunds, personal purchases and unequal shares need to be agreed separately before entering the totals. A settlement plan reduces reimbursements but is not a payment service.

Common question

What if the total cannot be divided equally to the cent?

The first people in your input order receive the extra cent of cost. For 10.00 split three ways, shares are 3.34, 3.33 and 3.33. The resulting transfers add up exactly without creating or losing cents.
