Using the Drywall / Sheetrock Calculator

Enter room dimensions in metres and subtract the combined area of doors and windows. Use the length and width of the panels you intend to buy. The result rounds the area requirement to whole sheets and shows the corresponding material cost.

Worked example

Use the example inputs below to reproduce this result. These are the form's starting values, not recommended targets. Changing your inputs updates your result above; this worked example stays fixed for comparison. Results are rounded for display.

Method and assumptions

Wall area = 2(length + width) × height, plus optional ceiling, minus openings. Apply waste, divide by panel area and round up. Area estimate only: sheet orientation, seams, stud spacing, reusable offcuts, fire ratings and transport constraints can require more panels. Excludes screws, joint compound, insulation and labor.

Turn an estimate into an order

A geometric quantity is a starting point for purchasing. Check whether the supplier sells by bag, box, mass or bulk volume, and use the stated coverage or yield to convert the result. Round only after accounting for the chosen allowance and packaging increments. For irregular spaces, divide the job into simpler sections and combine quantities with the same units.

Common question

Does the calculator optimize where every sheet is cut?

No. It estimates area coverage with a user-chosen waste allowance. A cutting plan must consider sheet orientation, framing, joint positions and reusable offcuts. Use the estimate as a purchasing starting point and verify it against the installation layout.
